According to research presented at the Society of general
microbiology Conference last year,
coconut oil, when in contact with certain enzymes in the mouth that are used
for the digestive process, showed a reduction of growth of several strains of
Streptococcus bacteria, including a strain that is linked to tooth decay.
More research will be done to uncover more about the
interaction of enzyme-modified coconut
oil and bacteria, but these preliminary findings could lead to the development
of the use of coconut oil in oral health
products to fight against cavities
