Common Questions about Orthodontics
So Why Orthodontics?
Orthodontic treatment improves your smile; a healthy smile that will last a lifetime. Having straighter teeth that are easier to clean and less prone to injury can improve your gum health and reduce the chance of trauma to your teeth. Having a healthy, beautiful smile with straight teeth and properly aligned jaws can also help to boost self image and confidence as well as contribute to good oral health and physical health. If you are not able to chew your food properly, the rest of your digestive system will have to work harder to break down your food.
As a parent, how do you know when to seek orthodontic treatment for your child or yourself?
The best way to know is by visiting an orthodontist. The Canadian Association of Orthodontist recommends that all children receive their first orthodontic check up with an orthodontic around age 7, even if your child still has baby teeth. By age 7 enough permanent teeth have grown in for an orthodontist to evaluate how your child's teeth and jaws meet and will be able to identify current or developing problems.
If you are considering orthodontics or know someone who is, The Discover Ortho Team would be happy to answer any further question you may have.
